After being in fitness for many years he, "Yearned to be in [his] body differently." So, after practicing yoga sporadically over the years was serendipitously offered the gift of Yoga Teacher Training. He has completed 200 hours with Rusty Wells’ Bhakti Flow.

"It is reassuring and a blessing to discover that one has actually been on a path for quite some time—even if you only recently have given it a name. I have been a fitness trainer for 17 years and, in that time, my style of training has evolved to encompass a deeper mind, body and spirit connection. In retrospect, it seems natural that yoga would become an integral part of that journey. And just as yoga is more than a physical practice at your favorite studio, I feel that what we encounter in our practice gives us insight into everyday life. For this reason I love yoga-it has articulated a way of being that has been calling to me forever."

Tyler Lockwood

Tyler is a San Diego native who moved up to the Bay Area to finish a BA degree in Recreation Parks and Tourism at San Francisco State University. Tyler completed his 200 hour yoga instructor training under Upeksha Yoga founder Shy Sayar in June 2010.

"In my personal practice, the sentiment of yoga is always changing. One day an asana routine its purely a physical exercise, another day it becomes a spiritual practice. Whatever it is, I just go along with the poses and let it manifest itself. That's the beautiful thing about teaching a yoga class, each student has a different experience, a different sentiment. I try to remain mindful of this truth, so that I can be a more accommodating teacher." Tyler welcomes all to his class: first timers, skeptics, devout practitioners.
